Keeping Promises to Yourself | The Power of Showing Up

How to move from intention to integrity

Hey,

How are you today? If you’re reading this, I already know you’re someone who cares deeply about living with intention. Someone who’s committed to growing, even when it’s uncomfortable, and who understands the value of building trust with yourself.

Before we dive in, take a moment to:

  1. Relax your jaw

  2. Lower your shoulders

  3. Press each finger to the thumb of the same hand counting 4,3,2,1

Welcome and thank you for landing here.☺️

Have you ever set a goal, felt that initial spark of excitement… and then found yourself quietly drifting away from it?

The Power of Keeping Promises to Yourself

We wouldn’t dream of flaking on a friend, or missing a work deadline, but when it comes to our own wellbeing or things for you, the rules seem… bendable.

That morning walk you promised yourself.

That boundary you meant to hold.

That job search you said you’d start “this week, for real this time.”

And when life gets full, it’s easy to put other priorities ahead of our own. Sometimes it shows up as quiet self-sacrifice, staying in a space of martyrdom. Other times, it stems from a deeper belief that we’re not worthy of that kind of care. We might even label it selfish to do something purely for ourselves. (Any parents out there ever found themselves thinking that?)

And sometimes, it’s not that we’re failing in our pursuit, it’s that we’ve consciously shifted our focus.
Perhaps we’re caring for a child, a relative, or navigating a time of extra responsibility. In those moments, it’s natural (and often necessary) for certain needs to be temporarily softened or set aside. What matters most is the awareness that focus is fluid and that we can gently return to ourselves, to our goals, when the moment allows.

Every time we say yes to one area of life; a new goal, a transition, a role we’re stepping into; we’re also accepting that we’re stepping away from, or giving slightly less time and energy to, something else. That’s not failure. It’s focus.

Like choosing to dial down your social life so you can study deeply and succeed in your exams (or grow your business). Or deciding to simplify your spending while raising children, because you’re investing your energy in their needs and experiences. Or prioritising early nights to build a strong, consistent fitness habit that supports your wellbeing.

The key is staying connected to what you hope to gain from the change you’re making, so you can stay committed to it while navigating the other moving parts of your life.

The question becomes: How can I still show up, even in a small way, for the other things that matter to me?
Whether it’s your health, your finances, your creative dreams… small, consistent touches build momentum. And confidence.

At the time, these choices can feel small or harmless. But over time, they shape the way we live.

What we repeat becomes who we are.

These aren’t just habits, they’re micro-moments that either build trust with ourselves or slowly chip away at it.

And this is where the real magic of accountability lives. Not in pressure or punishment, but in devotion.

Discipline is the quiet act of choosing what you ultimately want most over what you want right now.

It’s about becoming someone you can count on.

When we honour the promises we’ve made to ourselves, even during seasons when life demands our focus elsewhere, the impact ripples outward. Our inner cup becomes fuller, and from that place, we have more to offer others, too.

Keep reading for your personal guide to help you to keep your promises, and to show up for yourself in life and for those around you, better.
