The Art of Decision-Making and The Freedom From Decision Fatigue

Every decision is a doorway; How to meet them, take them and make them with confidence.

Hello there

A good friend of mine shared with me that in different languages the way we describe decision-making carries a totally different meaning. (Shoutout to you Christine!)

In Spanish, French and Italian, decisions are something you take, like a train that carries you somewhere new.

In English, you make them, like little pieces of your own creation.

In German, you meet them, like friends.

I love the way this brings a new lens on the decisions we encounter.

Rather than a chore or a stressful task, decisions can bring possibility, connection, adventure, creativity, and transformation. Having choices is a freedom not everyone in the world enjoys and so if we allow it, the very presence of decision making can also bring a sense of gratitude for the reality that you have more than one option.

Self-Knowledge Makes Choices Easier

What I’ve learned in my own life, and what I see time and time again with clients, is that the better we get to know ourselves, the easier decisions become.

When you know who you are, you know how to act.

Bhagavad Gita

Getting clear on your values, what matters to you, what you stand for, is the foundation from which truly aligned decisions can be made.

(Reminder: you can use the free tools at the bottom of this newsletter to get clarity on your values and what matters most!)

Pssssst! If you are not seeing these newsletters delivered to your inbox then they have probably found their way to your promotions/junk/spam or (even more terrifying) your trash bin. In order to collect them and put them where they can actually be of help, search for [email protected] across all emails and then you can mark it so it can be filed in your inbox from now on!

The Power of Commitment

This perspective completely changed my whole view of choices and decisions and I refer back to it time and time again, both in my life and when working with clients.

It doesn’t really matter what you choose. It’s the making of the choice that matters.

It’s about how you take, make, or meet the decision and how you then live this out, that makes all the difference to whether you are happy with your choice.
