Check-In No. 2 ✨Forever Change Vs Quick Wins; Staying Motivated

Your focus now isn’t to try harder, it’s to adjust your system.

Hey there

You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.

James Clear - Atomic Habits

We’re two weeks into our 12-week plan; that sweet spot where the novelty might be wearing off, and the real growth begins.

I know from many of you that resistance is starting to creep in. You’ve messaged me to say:
"I’m procrastinating and not actually doing what’s in my plan!"
"This time of year is so crazy, I’m missing day after day and feeling rubbish about it."
"I’m not sure I can keep this up when the kids are on half term."

If you’re just joining this journey, you’re not late, you’re exactly where you need to be right now.
You may wish to revisit these earlier letters to get support on where to begin:

Firstly, I hear you. You’re not alone (I’ve reworked my own plan too!). Resistance is part of the process. And today, I want to explore why this might be happening and how we can adapt with grace, without abandoning our plan altogether.

You might be facing one of three things:

1. Your plan is too restrictive or unsustainable.

If your habits are overly ambitious or rigid, it’s natural to feel resistance.

Transformation isn’t built on perfection, it’s built on consistency.

Come back to small, meaningful actions. By meaningful I mean ones which actually contribute to the life you want to live, not ones which keep you stuck.

That means your focus now isn’t to work harder, it’s to work smarter - to adjust the system.

Try this:

  • Break your plan down into tiny, doable steps. (Scroll down for some real life examples)

  • Stack habits onto existing routines. (e.g Every time you do your teeth before bed, plug your phone in to charge overnight somewhere outside of your bedroom).

  • Make your environment work for you. (e.g Leave your journal open, prep your workout clothes, keep healthy snacks visible).

These tiny prep steps will reduce the friction between intention and action and increase your likelihood of moving forward with ease. Because once those micro-habits are flowing, the momentum will take care of itself.

I know many of you have created beautiful, detailed 12-week plans. But here’s the truth- sometimes what we plan and what actually works don’t match up. Don’t abort the mission! Read on to see what to do instead.
